Holland Trails Committee Minutes
Date: August 27, 2014
Present: Richard & Chris Haller, Fred Beaulieu, Stacy Riley, Jackie Proko, John Scott,
Jen Ohop, and Howie Fife
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by Dick Haller. The minutes were approved as read.
Old Business:
The Vehicle Use Policy was signed by all present who had not already done so.
The grant application to Norcross was accepted, and $450 was funded. The contents of the brochure was discussed. Our meeting time and place should be included. $29.22 was unexpended in last years budget.
The signs the Highway Department are still in place. Brian Johnson says he will get the grading done.
Installation of a portable toilet between the trail head and the town beach was discussed.
Ideally this would be from May 22nd - October 19th (5 months). Dick will contact
the Army Corps and Board of Health to discuss costs.
Dick wrote to the Recreation Committee regarding a possible opening, but there has been no reply. They meet the1st Sunday of the month at 8PM. Those interested should consider attending.
New Business:
Dick was elected Chairman. He will also serve as Secretary.
The Committee has been asked to use a town email address:
Howie and Jen presented information about the need for a new Open Space Plan. The last plan was written in 2004. A current plan is necessary for funding by the Commonwealth.

There will be a public meeting on October 18th from 10-12 at the Community Center.
Unfortunately, this is the same date and time as the trail ride. The Committee was assured that they will be informed of other opportunities to participate.
An on-line survey has been prepared. The Committee will assist in informing residents of this. Questions include whether or not the individual would support enactment of the Community Preservation Act. This was discussed.
Another question referred to the creation of a trail from Town Hall to the Senior Center and a fitness trail. These were also discussed.
Our next workday is September 27th from 8:30-12:30. It will involve trail maintenance and surfacing a section of Old East Brimfield Rd. The Army Corps will not be participating but will assist with a press release.
We have about 64 yards of material. We will need additional material to complete the project. The Committee voted unanimously to authorize the purchase of 64 yards of half inch process.
It was also decided to explore the Community Center property and other town-owned land to assess the feasibility of trails on Saturday, September 13. We will meet at the Community Center from 10 to 12.
The trail ride is scheduled for October 18th from 10 to 12. Dick will contact Bicycle Concepts to see if a mechanic is available.
